Uncovering hidden gems: a guide to finding glimmers
Glimmers are small moments or instances of positivity that can be found in our everyday lives. They are like sparks of light that bring joy, hope, or inspiration. These glimmers can be anything from a kind gesture from a stranger, a beautiful sunset, or even a moment of personal achievement. They are the little things that can brighten our day and uplift our spirits. By actively seeking out and acknowledging these glimmers, we can cultivate a more positive mindset and enhance our overall well-being.
The process of finding glimmers involves being present and mindful in our daily lives. It requires us to slow down, observe our surroundings, and pay attention to the details. By doing so, we become more attuned to the beauty and positivity that exists in the world. It’s about being open to the possibility of finding glimmers in unexpected places and moments. This practice also encourages gratitude, as we learn to appreciate the little things that often go unnoticed. By actively seeking out glimmers, we can train our minds to focus on the positive and cultivate a more optimistic outlook.
You are not alone in if you struggle finding glimmers, in one research 80% of people struggled to find positivity in their daily lives. And according to positive psychology, only 30% of individuals actively seek out moments of joy.
Life is a journey with many winding paths. At times you will experience distress and maybe you are going through this right now. Glimmers are rather difficult to find during these moments and it isn’t about forcing yourself to feel ‘happiness’. Leaning into our emotions as if they are a compass is very useful. My writing on glimmers is not to encourage only a ‘positive’ state of wellbeing as this is not simply possible for us humans. We are not robots. Our nervous system is attuned to be aware of stressful events and with a little encouragement we can make our nervous system aware of calmness and beauty too. It takes time.
The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.

Tip to practice
Finding glimmers is a skill that can be developed with practice. I’d recommend starting with setting the intention to look for positivity and being open to the idea that there is always something good to be found. It can be helpful to keep a journal or make a mental note of the glimmers we encounter throughout the day. Reflecting on these moments of positivity can reinforce the habit of seeking out glimmers and help us to find patterns or themes that bring us joy. By consistently engaging in this practice, we can train our minds to naturally gravitate towards the positive, leading to a more fulfilling and optimistic life.
Finding glimmers is closely related to finding positivity because it involves shifting our focus towards the positive aspects of life. In our fast-paced and often stressful world, it’s easy to get caught up in negativity and overlook the small moments of happiness. However, by intentionally seeking out glimmers, we train ourselves to notice and appreciate the things that surround us. This practice helps us to reframe our perspective and find joy even in the midst of challenges. It reminds us that there is always something good to be found, no matter how small or fleeting it may be.
